Nothing is more rewarding than pulling a huge striped bass out of the surf. The trade-off to fishing the beach is that it is difficult to carry multiple rods, reels and spools when you are hoofing it. It is about carrying light gear and making the compromise that if you are going to truly do it yourself, you need to be mobile and ready to change depending on the conditions. Over the years I have tried 30' shooting head systems, an intermediate only sinking fly line, a type 4 sinking fly line and even a floating only fly line. While I have found that certain times of the year some fly lines work better than others, one line can not do it all. So in my search to find a better mousetrap I began using Rio's 15' versitip line a few years ago on my 9 weight fly rod and have not changed lines since. The 15' shooting heads have minimal hinging, works well in windy weather and shoots the whole fly line with ease. For anyone who may find themselves in many types of conditions and water depths throughout the season all it takes to change heads is to swap it out with another head that comes in a wallet with the lines on a loop to loop connection. The versitip system comes with a floating head, intermediate, and 2 other sinking lines to complete the package. I would highly recommend this line if fishing from the shore or boat for striped bass and would certainly purchase another when/if this line breaks down.
