Saltwater Gear List
In preparation for a guided trip, below is a list of items to remember when getting
knee deep for trout. As always, if you have any questions feel free to drop us a line
at skylandsangler@yahoo.com
Provided by the guide:
Rods/Reels:
Can be provided but a good thing to have. Depending on
fishing conditions and time of year, these can range from 8
weight to 10 weight outfits.
Fly Line:
Provided with the rod/reel outfit. An intermediate line
matching your rod is best for all conditions. A versitip
system works best. Ones with 15 foot heads are preferred.
Leaders:
Provided. Leaders will range from 4 feet to 10 feet depending
upon conditions.
Flies:
Provided, but feel free to bring your own.
Stripping Basket:
Provided, but feel free to bring your own. If you are looking to
purchase one for personal use, I would recommend the Orvis
hard plastic basket. Mesh bags don't work in the surf.
Need to bring:
Medications:
If you need medications, bee sting kits, inhalers, etc do not
forget. If you need your medication on ice, please notify the
guide in advance.
Proper Clothing:
Hat, long sleeve shirt, long pants to protect yourself from the
sun. Also, in times of the year when weather can change
quickly, make sure to dress in layers and pack a waterproof
jacket if possible.
Sunglasses:
Polarized glasses are a good investment as there is a lot of
glare off of the water.
Sunblock and lip balm:
It is important to protect yourself from the sun when exposed
for long periods of time.
Camera:
A good thing to have to remember your day on the water.
Waders/ Wading Boots:
Should be boot foot and breathable. Lots of walking and sand
can make a stockingfoot wader very uncomfortable.
